Description
Impressed seal applied on to a door frame, of which only the edge and the corner of one of the large official seals of the fortress of Iken (old name of Mirgissa) are visible. It was usual that the civil servant who supervised the opening of doors affixed his personal seal, a scaraboid engraved with interlacing bands. The official seals were those of the granaries, the warehouses, the treasury etc and were applied to the bolt in the corner of the door or on the bond that kept the doorleaf closed, on each catch.
