Egyptians slept with their necks resting on a headrest made of wood. Examples intended for the tomb were made of alabaster, hard stone, ivory, faience, wood, or even terracotta. This beautiful alabaster example is made up of an elongated half-moon shaped upper element,a fluted body, and an almost square base. A disc joins the body to its rectangular support. The object carries a short horizontal inscription and a longer text in one vertical column, giving the name and titles of the owner, who probably lived during the Old Kingdom.
