Fragment of a Text of the Pyramids

BrE.2383I.jpg

From the end of the 5th Dynasty, the walls of the funerary chambers and the corridors of the pyramids were decorated with inscriptions that egyptologists call the Pyramid Texts. Of diverse content, these funerary formulae were recited during royal funerals. The piece represented is one of eight fragments the Brussels Museums preserve in their collection. It shows five columns of text, with the cartouche of Pepi I in the middle.
