Description
Small bronze figurine of a harpy, the creature part woman, part bird of prey, from Greek myth. Such figures appear sometimes on Roman Period shrouds, and this piece too may date to the early Roman Period and derive from a burial in Egypt of that age.

Klein bronzen figuurtje van een harpij, het wezen dat deels vrouw, deels roofvogel is. Bekend uit de Griekse mythologie. Dergelijke afbeeldingen verschijnen soms op lijkkleden uit de Romeinse Periode, en ook dit stuk kan afkomstig zijn uit een graf uit de vroege Romeinse Periode.
Petite figurine en bronze d'une harpie, monstre à tête de femme et à corps d'oiseau de proie appartenant à la mythologie grecque. De telles figures apparaissent parfois sur des linceuls de la Période Romaine. Cette pièce, aussi, peut dater du début de la Période Romaine et provenir d'une tombe située en Égypte.
Kleines Bronzefigürchen einer Harpye, einer Figur aus der griechischen Mythologie, die halb Frau, halb Raubvogel ist. Solche Figuren erscheinen manchmal auf Leichentüchern der Römerzeit, und auch dieses Stück datiert wohl in die frühe Römerzeit und stammt von einer Bestattung dieser Zeit in Ägypten.
