Hollow bronze case with a figure of a snake on the upper side, indicating that this served as the container for a mummified snake. Snake coffins are known to come from a number of sites, including Thebes and Saqqara. They date to the period between 700 BC and AD 100, when large numbers of animals were mummified throughout Egypt and buried as votive offerings to specific deities.
