This scarab, one of the most characteristic objects of Egyptian art, reproduces the insect's appearance with great detail. It was meant to be placed in a funerary mail, as indicated by the holes all around it. Its position was close to the deceased's heart, since it was considered a symbol of resurrection. It was generally accompanied by figures of the four Sons of Horus, also sewn to the mail.
