Mummies were protected by a range of amulets. This example in hard greenish stone is in the form of a heart, and bears the name of the owner and a formula taken from chapter 30B of the Book of the Dead, which text needed to be spoken by the deceased during his judgement. This amulet served as a funerary talisman of the same type as the heart scarab (see E. 8064).
