Description
Dish of a widespread type, well-known during the Middle Kingdom and mass produced. The clay is common (Nile clay and organic temper) and has been polished. Marks indicating that the vessel was stuck in the earth are visible on the bottom. The vessel is convex, footless, flared, and has a tapered lip in continuation of the body wall. This example was covered with a light red-ochre wash. It might have served as a lamp since the lip is blackened.
