Description
The lotus flower is the Ancient Egyptian equivalent of our rose: the queen of flowers. The waterlily, the Egyptian rendering of which still survives in the name "Susanna", was particularly popular. This piece, in multicoloured faience, was intended to be an inlay for a stove.

De lotusbloem is het oud-Egyptische equivalent van onze roos: de koningin onder de bloemen. De vijverbloem, waarvan de Egyptische naam nog altijd voortleeft in de naam "Suzanne", was bijzonder populair. Dit stuk van veelkleurige faience was bedoeld als inlegwerk voor een tegel.
La fleur de lotus est l'équivalent égyptien de notre rose: La reine des fleurs. Le nénuphar, la version égyptienne de ce qui a survécu sous le nom de "Susanna", était tout particulièrement populaire. Cette pièce, en faïence multicolore, devait servir d'incrustation.
Der Lotos war den Ägyptern das, was uns die Rose ist: die Königin der Blumen. Insbesondere die Teichrose, deren ägyptische Bezeichnung noch im Namen "Susanna" weiterlebt, erfreute sich größter Beliebtheit. Die vorliegende mehrfarbige Fayence-Ausführung war zur Einlage in Kachel bestimmt.
Il fiore di loto equivale, nell'antico Egitto, alla nostra rosa: la regina dei fiori. Specialmente il giglio d'acqua, la cui definizione egizia sopravvive ancora nel <!-->nome "Susanna", era molto popolare. Questo esemplare, in fayence policroma, costituisce un intarsio per una piastrella.
