Description
The head depicts the god Ptah, the creator god of Memphis the capital of Egypt during the Old Kingdom. He was usually portrayed as a mummy holding a staff that combines the Djed, the Ankh, and the Was, symbols respectively of stability, eternal life and power. The head of the god is shaven as usual and covered by a tight-fitting skullcap leaving his ears exposed. The eyes and the eyebrows are hollow; they were thought to have been inlaid. The false beard is straight and it should be framed by bronze.
