A pottery funerary cone belonging to the 'Overseer of the Builders', Amenhotep, the cone is intact but was broken and repaired at some time. The stamp consists of three columns of undivided text, finely worked against a pale background.

The cones were placed at the entrance to the tomb, probably pushed into the wet plaster of the lintel. They are first recorded in the12th Dynasty but the majority date to the18th Dynasty and come from Thebes. The broad end of the cone is usually stamped with the deceased's name and titles, this information would have been visible to all who passed the tomb.
