Large section of a linen tunic embroidered in purple-dyed wool, with elaborate circular geometric motif, and ornate long band with three narrow band-endings. The garment is typical of late Roman and Byzantine production. Such decorated textiles survive from Egyptian desert burials on a massive scale, thanks to the custom of wrapping the unmummified Christian dead in cloths from life.
