Faience model votive of an ear

1901788.JPG

In the New Kingdom and later, the 'hearing ear' embodied the belief in a response from the god or goddess to prayer. This is one of the earliest examples, from the 18th Dynasty temple of Hatshepsut on the Theban West Bank, where numerous private votive offerings to the goddess Hathor were found.
