Burnished black-topped pottery vessel, excavated by Green and Quibell at one of the earliest royal cities of Egypt, Hierakonpolis (in Egyptian Nekhen). This example dates to the early Naqada II Period, when the site was developing from small-scale settlements into a full urban centre. It is typical of the wares placed in burials of the elite at that time.
