Bust of Sarapis

5196.JPG

The torso of this bust of Sarapis is covered by the folds of his garment. The head is characteristically rendered with five locks on the forehead, a full beard parted in the middle, and an undecorated kalathos on top of the head. The kalathos is a grain measure symbolizing fecundity which forms part of the classical iconography of Sarapis.
