Description
Priapus, god of gardens and of the fertility of the fields, is depicted standing on a base decorated with a three-panelled frame. With his left hand, he lifts up his tunic as far as his stomach; with his right hand, he clasps the garment against his chest. With the head slightly inclined to the side, he wears a " kalathos" head-dress. On his feet are ankle boots. The majority of figurines of Priapus show the god surrounded by date-palms, sometimes accompanied by Aphrodite, who is his mother and his wife. He is the Greek equivalent of the egyptian ithyphallic god Min.
