Description
Finely moulded faience figurine of the goddess of childbirth, Taweret, whose monstrous form combining crocodile, hippopotamus and lion was intended to fend off any evil that might befall the vulnerable mother and child. Such figurines become common in the Late Period, after 700 BC.

Fijn gevormd faience figuurtje van de godin van de geboorte, Taweret, wier monsterachtige vorm van een gecombineerde krokodil, nijlpaard en leeuw bedoeld was om elk kwaad dat de kwetsbare moeder en kind kon deren, af te weren. Dergelijke figuurtjes werden gemeengoed in de Late Periode, na 700 voor Christus.
Figurine en faïence finement moulée de la déesse de la naissance, Taouret, dont la forme monstrueuse combine le crocodile, l'hippopotame et le lion. Elle était chargée d'écarter tout danger qui pouvait menacer la mère et l'enfant, tous deux vulnérables. De telles figures devinrent courantes à Basse Époque, après 700 avant notre ère.
Fein geformtes Fayencefigürchen der Geburtsgöttin Taweret, deren monströse Gestalt, die Krokodil, Nilpferd und Löwe verbindet, jegliches Übel abwehren sollte, das die verwundbare Mutter und ihr Kind treffen könnte. Solche Figürchen wurden in der Spätzeit, nach 700 v. Chr. häufig.

Tali figurine divennero comuni in Epoca Tarda, dopo il 700 a.C.
Figurinha finamente modelada em faiança, da deusa do nascimento, Taueret, cuja forma monstruosa combinando crocodilo, hipopótamo e leão, tinha como objectivo afastar qualquer mal que pudesse recair sobre a mãe e a criança. Pequenas figuras em faiança tornaram-se comuns na Época Baixa, após 700 a.C.
Figurita de fayenza cuidadosamente moldeada de la diosa del nacimiento, Tueris, cuya monstruosa forma, combinación de cocodrilo, hipopótamo y león, pretendía mantener apartado cualquier peligro que pudiera afectar a la madre y al hijo, tan vulnerables. Estas figuritas se hicieron habituales en la Baja Época, después del 700 a. C.
