Description
Ivory hairpin with head in the form of a barrel bead between short cylindrical elements. It was excavated at the late Roman fort and town at Shurafa, south from modern Cairo. The finds illustrate the Romanized lifestyle of Egypt in the centuries before the Arab conquest in AD 640-641.

Ivoren haarpin met kop in de vorm van een tonvormige kraal tussen twee cilindrische elementen. Het is opgegraven in het laat-Romeinse fort en de stad bij Sjoerafa, ten zuiden van modern Cairo. De vondsten illustreren de geromaniseerde levenswijze van Egypte in de eeuwen voor de Arabische verovering in 640-641na Christus.
Epingle à cheveux en ivoire, en forme de perle cylindrique comprise entre deux petits éléments cylindriques. Elle a été découverte dans la ville fortifiée romaine de Shurafa, au sud du Caire. Les trouvailles de ce type témoignent du mode de vie en Égypte romanisée, durant les siècles qui ont précédé la conquête arabe, en 640-641de notre ère.
