Description
Red pottery vase with rounded base, wide waist, and open mouth. The fine quality and perfect condition are typical of predynastic pottery placed in, and in many instances made specifically for richer burials in Upper Egypt. This example was found in one of the fourth millennium BC graves at the key early settlement near Kom el-Ahmar (the Hierakonpolis of later texts) in southern Upper Egypt.
