The head in marble is believed to be that of Berenice the Second, wife of Ptolemy the Third. She is depicted wearing a crown, with an oval face, deep shadowed eyes, a small straight nose, and long hair reaching her shoulders. She was renowned for her courage and strong will, her rare beauty and golden hair, which gave inspiration to the poets of that period.
