The Global Egyptian Museum

This ostracon shows a cheerful episode from an Egyptian folktale. In this tale the roles of the natural world are reversed. Here, a cat, standing on its hind legs, acts as guide and protector to a flock of six ducks or geese, arranged in two registers, or sections. 

Above the birds is a nest filled with eggs. The cat is equipped with a small bag of provisions suspended from the end of a long crook, which is carried over its shoulder.

Cet ostracon montre un bel épisode d'un conte égyptien. Dans cette histoire, les rôles du monde naturel sont inversés. Ainsi, un chat, debout sur ses pattes de derrière, assume le rôle de guide et de protecteur d'une volée de six canards, ou oies, disposés dans deux registres, ou sections. 

Au-dessus de ces oiseaux se trouve un nid rempli d'œufs. Sur ses épaules, le chat porte un petit panier de provisions accroché à l'extrémité d'un long bâton.

تعرض هذه الشقفة طرفة من الطرائف الشعبية المصرية تنقلب فيها الأدوار، فنرى هنا القطة واقفة على رجليها الخلفيتين وتلعب دور المرشد أو الحامى لسرب من ست بطات أو أوزات موزعين فى صفين. 

وأعلى الطيور نجد عش مملوء بالبيض. وتحمل القطة حقيبة صغيرة للمؤونة معلقة فى طرف عصا طويل على كتفها.
