Description
Bronze head of a cat, corroded away on one side. The cat is most often found in Late Period depictions of the goddess Bastet. Such bronze images of deities were common votive offerings at shrines of Late Period and Ptolemaic date. Bronze cat heads and complete cat figures were also used as containers for mummified cats or parts of cats, buried in vast animal catacombs in the Late Period.
