Description
A small figurine of a cat was associated with the cult of the goddess Bastet and was considered her sacred animal. This cat is seated with its tail curled forward and both ears erect, giving it an alert expression. The artist finely captured the basic characteristics of its face, and decorated its neck with a relatively broad lotus garland. The eyes were apparently originally inlaid and the ears were pierced, perhaps for gold earrings
