Description
Cette lampe à huile appartient à la collection de lampes de l'époque romaine. Elle se caractérise par sa grande taille et ses deux ouvertures frontales pour les mèches, qui pernettaient un meilleur éclairage. Il y a également une ouverture au centre pour accéder au réservoir d'huile. La lampe est de grande taille pour permettre un plus grand réservoir à huile et par conséquent un meilleur éclairage. Une poignée a donc été ajoutée à l'arrière pour faciliter le transport de la lampe. L'avant de la lampe est orné d'un masque représentant un visage riant d'une manière comique.

An oil lamp belongs to a collection of lamps dated to the Roman era. It is distinguished by its large size and its two front openings for the wicks, which allowed more light. It also has an opening in the middle through which it can be fiiled with oil. The large size was necessary to increase the amount of oil and thus increase the illumination; hence a handle was added at the rear to make the lamp easier to carry. The front part of the lamp is decorated with a mask of a face laughing in a comical manner.
مصباح زيت ينتمي إلى مجموعة من المصابيح التي يرجع تاريخها إلى العصر الروماني. ويتميز هذا المصباح بحجمه الكبير وفتحتين أماميتين لفتيلين؛ لمزيد من الإضاءة. وللمصباح أيضا فتحة في الوسط، يملأ منها بالزيت. وكان الحجم الكبير للمصباح ضروريا لزيادة كمية الزيت به، وبالتالي زيادة الإضاءة. ولهذا السبب ثبت المقبض في الخلف لكي يسهل حمل المصباح. ولقد زين الجزء الأمامي للمصباح بقناع وجه ضاحك؛ على نحو هزلي (كوميدي).
