The last king of the 5th Dynasty, mainly known for being the first king in whose tomb (at Saqqara) the Pyramid Texts were inscribed. Very little is known about his reign. According to the Turin Royal Canon he ruled for 30 years, and according to Manetho 33. It is assumed that the various scenes carved on the walls of the processional way between his valley temple and his mortuary temple next to his pyramid illustrate important events from his reign. Among them are the well-known representations of extremely emaciated people, perhaps referring to a period of famine. Although some scholars think that this is connected with the political and economic decline at the end of the Old Kingdom, the entire 6th Dynasty was yet to come.
