Headrest

BrE.0785,12.jpg

This model of a headrest in wood comes from the excavations of A. Gayet at Antinoopolis. It is composed of two elements: a higher part in the form of a half-moon and a foot of which the rounded base is slightly widened. Several religous texts confirm that the headrest was a guarantee for the rebirth of the deceased in the Afterlife. The piece, which was entirely stuccoed, dates from the Middle Kingdom.
