Funerary Bed with God Bes

649-1-em-1-2713-_800x800.jpg

This is one of the funerary beds of King Tutankhamun. It is made of ebony and gold leaf and has a woven stucco surface.

The legs of the bed are like those of a lion and are resting on a cylindrical base.

The center back of the bed is divided into three sections. Each section has a standing figure of the god Bes resting on the hieroglyphic sign of the goddess Taweret to protect the king from evil spirits while sleeping.

Two lions flank the figure of Bes. There are also three horizontal lines of hieroglyphs giving a formula, praying that the king will have life, stability, and health like the god Re, forever.
