Head of a small sphinx

BrE.8019(1).jpg
BrE.8019(2).jpg BrE.8019(3).jpg

This fragment of beige-coloured quartz probably belongs to a sphinx statuette, indicated by the nemes headdress, the end of which takes the form of a tail. The facial features, with the large eyes stretched towards the temples and surmounted by moderately arched eyebrows, the straight nose, and the serious mouth, neither thin nor thick, bring to mind the iconographical features of Amenhotep II.
