Description
Plate, typical of the early New Kingdom, with a ring base, convex body and simple flaring lip. The interior is covered with a thick brick-red slip made from hematite which has been burnished, thus sealing the vessel and diminishing its absorption capacity, enabling it to contain liquids. This dish was part of a ceramic deposit in a multiple burial of Mirgissa/Iken that comprised three cups, an ovoid jar and a calcite cosmetic jar.
