Description
Canopic jars were used to store the intestines of the deceased, which were taken out of the body during the mummification process. In the Old Kingdom, the lids of canopic jars were usually flat, as is shown by this example.

Canopenvazen werden gebruikt om de ingewanden van de overledene in te bewaren, die tijdens de mummificatie uit het lichaam genomen werden. In het Oude Rijk waren de deksels van canopen plat, zoals dit exemplaar laat zien.
Les vases canopes étaient utilisés pour conserver les viscères du défunt qui étaient extraits du cadavre durant le processus de momification. Sous l'Ancien Empire, les couvercles des canopes étaient habituellement plats, comme le montre cet exemplaire.
Kanopen dienten der Aufbewahrung der Eingeweide des Toten, die bei der Mumifizierung aus dem Körperinneren entfernt worden sind. Kanopengefässe besaßen im Alten Reich lediglich flache Deckel, wie dieses Beispiel zeigt.
