Deze prachtige ibiskop met oplettende oogjes, 15 cm. lange snavel en gebogen nek was oorspronkelijk bevestigd aan een lichaam van ander materiaal, waarschijnlijk verguld hout. De poten en staartveren waren van brons gemaakt. De ibis was het heilige dier van de god Thoth. Griekse en Romeinse auteurs verbonden de stappen van deze vogel van een el lang met die van Thoth als uitvinder van de reken- en meetkunde.

Cette magnifique tête d'ibis, aux yeux attentifs, possède un bec long de 15 centimètres et un cou incurvé. A l'origine, il était fixé sur un corps fabriqué dans un matériau différent, sans doute du bois doré. Les plumes des pattes et de la queue étaient en bronze. L'ibis était l'animal sacré du dieu Thoth. Les auteurs latins et grecs le considéraient comme l'inventeur du calcul et des mesures.

Der herrliche Ibiskopf mit dem aufmerksam spähenden Auge, dem 15 cm langen Schnabel und dem biegsamen Hals saß auf einem Körper aus anderem Material, vermutlich vergoldetes Holz; Beine und Schwanzfedern waren aus Bronze. Der Ibis war ein heiliges Tier des Gottes Thoth. Griechische und römische Schriftsteller bringen die Abmessung seines Schrittes von einer Elle Länge mit Thoth als Erfinder der Rechen- und Meßkunst in Verbindung.

This beautiful head of an ibis with watchful eyes, a 15 cm long bill and a curved neck was originally affixed to a body of a different material, presumably gilded wood. The legs and tail feathers were made of bronze. The ibis was the sacred animal of the god Thoth. Greek and Roman authors connected his one cubit long step with Thoth as the inventor of calculation and measurement.
