Description
A wooden cubit rod, with the divisions of the cubit marked on it. One edge of the measure is bevelled. The unit of length was used to measure objects and short distances, the length was that from the elbow to the fingertips of a tall man. This was then divided into seven 'palms' and 28 'digits'. On this rod the divisions are marked on average 19, 38 and 76mm.

General Comment
Provenance: The rod is inscribed with a dedication on behalf of Any, a workman from the village of Deir el-Medina, Thebes. In view of this it may be assumed that the rod originated from here despite the unknown provenance record. Disposition: The inscription in is written on one side and consists of a dedication to Amun-Re, Ptah, and Thoth on behalf of Nakhy, a workman from Deir el-Medina.
