General Comment
A feline goddess, associated with the sun god and as the less fierce aspect of the lioness-headed goddess, Sekhmet. Preservation: The pedastal is a modern addition. Iconography: The cat goddess Bast was worshipped at Bubastis in the Delta, a daughter of the sun-god Re. She was a benign deity connected with motherhood, fertility and festivity, in contrast to the aggressive image of the lioness-headed goddess Sekhmet with whom she was also associated.
