Description
Body sherd from a storage jar painted with red, black and, predominant, cobalt blue. Cobalt was used as a pigment mainly in the late 18th Dynasty, and only in glaze and glass colouring and for painting pottery. The source is unknown: central European cobalt might have been traded via Mycenean Greece, but this remains debated.
