Description
Although some depictions indicate the use of hairpins during hairstyling, the wearing of hairpins as an ornament is typical of the innovations brought by Hellenistic and then Roman rule. This example is carved at one end in the form of a human hand holding a small circular object, perhaps a cosmetic item.
