Description
Pottery lamps becomes widespread in Egypt under Roman rule; in earlier periods, purpose-made lamps are sometimes found, but more often ordinary saucers were used for lamps. This example is typical of the late mass production of lamps with moulded designs, here a simple motif of petals.

In de Romeinse Periode raken in Egypte aardewerken lampen in zwang. Voor die tijd werden soms wel lampen speciaal vervaardigd, maar meestal werden gewone schotels als lamp gebruikt. Dit exemplaar is typerend voor de late massaproductie van lampen, hier met een eenvoudig bloembladmotief.
Les lampes en terre cuite se répandent en Égypte sous la domination romaine; pendant les périodes antérieures, on utilisait parfois de véritables lampes, fabriquées à cet effet, mais, le plus souvent, on se servait de coupelles ordinaires. Cet exemple est typique de la production massive tardive de lampes, aux dessins moulés. Celle-ci comporte un simple motif fait de pétales.
Tonlampen sind im römisch beherrschten Ägypten weit verbreitet; in früheren Zeiten finden sich zwar manchmal eigens für diesen Zweck hergestellte Lampen, aber meist wurden gewöhnliche Untertassen als Lampen benutzt. Dieses Exemplar ist typisch für die späte Massenproduktion von Lampen mit modellierten Mustern, in diesem Fall einem einfachen Blättermotiv.
Lucerne in terracotta si diffusero in Egitto sotto il dominio romano; in epoche precedenti lucerne fabbricate con questa funzione erano rare, mentre più spesso semplici piattini erano utilizzati come lucerne. Questo esemplare è tipico della produzione di massa di lucerne con disegni modellati, in questo caso un semplice motivo decorativo di petali.
Lamparinas de cerâmica espalharam-se pelo Egipto durante o Império Romano; para períodos anteriores, encontram-se por vezes lamparinas, mas normalmente recipientes normais eram utilizados como lamparinas. Este exemplar é típico da produção de lamparinas em massa, aqui com um simples motivo inciso.
