Description
The cobra is the Pharaonic symbol for the defence of creation and kingship. In the Ptolemaic and Roman Periods a male and a female cobra are often paired to depict the Alexandrian god Serapis and the goddess Isis, as emblems of fertility as well as of protection.

In de Ptolemeïsche en Romeinse Periode worden vaak een mannelijke en een vrouwelijk cobra samen weergegeven om de Alexandrijnse god Serapis en de godin Isis af te beelden als emblemen van zowel vruchtbaarheid als bescherming.
