The Global Egyptian Museum

The colossal head is an Egyptian-style portrait of Ptolemy the Sixth Philometor, depicted as a Pharaoh wearing a Nemes headdress. The head, Nemes headdress, back pillar, and part of the neck were all once part of a granite statue. 

Ptolemy the Sixth originally wore a crown, which is now missing. Ptolemy the Sixth's features are carved according to the ruler's Greek portrait type. Although the eyes were originally inset, their outline is typical to those of the Greek rulers' statues. The nose, lips, chin, and parts of the ears are damaged. The uraeus, or royal cobra, also is damaged and the inlaid eyes are missing.

En réalité, cette tête immense est un portrait de style égyptien de Ptolémée Six Philometor. Ce dernier est représenté sous les traits d'un pharaon coiffé du nemès. A une époque, la tête, le nemès, le pilier de soutien et une partie du cou faisaient partie d'une statue de granit. 

Ptolémée Six était coiffé d'une couronne, maintenant perdue. Les traits de son visage sont gravés d'après le type grec du souverain. Bien qu'à une époque, ses yeux étaient incrustés, leur contour est typical au contour des statues de souverains grec. Le nez, les lèvres, le menton et certaines parties des oreilles sont abîmés. L'uraeus, ou cobra royal, est également incomplet ; quant aux yeux, leurs incrustations ont disparu.

جاء هذا الرأس الضخم ممثلاً، على النمط المصري، لبطلميوس السادس فيلوماتور (المحب لأمه) في صورة فرعون يتخذ قلنسوة النمس، إذ كان مجموع الرأس وقلنسوة النمس ودعامة الظهر فضلاً عن جزء من العنق، كان يوماً ما جزءاً من تمثال من الجرانيت.

كان بطلميوس السادس يتخذ أصلاً تاجاً مفقوداً اليوم. وقد نحتت ملامح بطلميوس السادس على نمط تماثيل الحكام الإغريق، على أن العينين وإن كانتا أصلاً مرصعتين فان حوافيهما مطابقة لتماثيل الحكام الأغريق، وإن كانت الأنف والشفتان والذقن وأجزاء من الأذنين قد كسرت، كما كسرت اليورايوس أو الكوبرا الملكية وضاعت رصائع العينين.
