The Global Egyptian Museum

The colored mosaic shows a scene inspired by Greek mythology, the story of the river god Alpheus. His name is inscribed beside him on the left of the scene. The nude young man standing on the left pursued the nymph Arethusa, who fled from him to Syracuse in Sicily. 

Many colored tessarae, which are small pieces of marble, glass, or tile, were used to execute this beautiful mosaic.

Cette mosaïque colorée montre une scène inspirée de la mythologie grecque. Il s'agit de l'histoire du dieu-fleuve Alphée.Son nom est gravé à côté de lui, sur le côté gauche de la scène. Le jeune homme nu poursuit la nymphe Aréthuse jusqu'à Syracuse en Sicile.

De nombreuses tessères colorées, ou petits morceaux de marbre, tessons de verre ou fragments de tuiles, furent utilisées afin de réaliser cette magnifique mosaïque.

يتجلى على القيشاني الملون منظر مستوحى من الأساطير الإغريقية عن قصة إله نهر الفيوس الذي نقش اسمه إلى جواره عن يسار المنظر والفتى العاري القائم هنا عن يسار يتعقب الحورية ارثيوسا التي هربت منه إلى سرقسطة بصقلية. 

وقد استعملت أعداد كثيرة من البلاطات الملونة من قطع رخام صغيرة وزجاج، لإنجاز هذه القطعة من القيشاني.
