The Global Egyptian Museum

The gigantic statue of the god Serapis is sculpted in basalt, a dark gray or black dense rock. The statue represents Serapis in the form of a strong bull with a solar disk and uraeus, or royal cobra, between his horns.

The inscription originally placed on the pillar that supports the body of the bull indicates that the statue was set up around AD 130 in the time of the Roman Emperor Hadrian. 

Serapis was a new god derived from the god Osir-Apis to unite the Greek and Egyptian population of Alexandria.

Cette gigantesque statue du dieu Sérapis est sculptée dans du basalte, ou roche épaisse de couleur noire ou gris foncé. Elle représente Sérapis sous l'apparence d'un puissant taureau. Ce dernier porte un disque solaire et l'uraeus, ou cobra royal, entre ses cornes.

L'inscription mentionnée à l'origine sur le pilier qui soutient le corps du taureau indique que cette statue fut érigée aux alentours de 130 après Jésus-Christ, à l'époque de l'empereur romain Hadrien.

Dérivé du dieu Osir-Apis, Sérapis était une nouvelle divinité qui servit à unir les peuples grecs et égyptiens d'Alexandrie.

نحت التمثال الهائل من البازلت، وهو حجر كثيف أشهب أو أسود، إذ يشخص التمثال سيرابيس في هيئة فحل قوي مع قرص الشمس والكوبرا الملكية بين قرنيه. 

يشير النقش، وكان أساساً على العمود الذي يدعم جسد الفحل أن التمثال إنما أقيم عام 130م في عهد الإمبراطور الروماني هادريانوس.

كان سيرابيس إلهاً جديداً استحدث من الإله أوزير-أبيس لتوحيد سكان الإسكندرية من الإغريق والمصريين.
