Because travel depended on the River Nile, the custom of including model boats in tomb goods began in very ancient times. Boats were thought to be essential to the deceased for their journeys in the afterlife. 

This is one of several model boats made of gold and silver. 

This miniature boat was found on top of a chariot in the tomb of Queen Ahhotep. It is less detailed than other models, since it has only the oarsmen and the helmsman on board.

Etant donné que la plupart des déplacements s'effectuaient sur le Nil, l'usage voulut qu'au cours des temps anciens, on place des maquettes de barques parmi les objets que l'on mettait dans les tombes. En effet, ces barques permettaient au défunt de voyager au pays des morts. 

Retrouvée sur un char dans la tombe de la reine Ahhotep, cette barque miniature compte parmi les nombreuses embarcations fabriquées en or et en argent. Toutefois, il s'agit d'un modèle moins détaillé. En effet, seuls les rameurs et le timonier sont à bord.

لأن السفر كان يعتمد على نهر النيل، فقد ظهرت منذ العصور القديمة عادة أن يضم القبر نماذج لقوارب مصغرة ضمن محتوياته، إذ كان يعتقد أن المتوفي يستخدمهم فى رحلاته في العالم الآخر. 

وهذا هو أحد القوارب المصغرة المصنوعة من الذهب والفضة والذى تم العثور عليه فوق عربة. وهو أقل تفصيلا من النموذج الآخر، حيث أنه يظهر المجدفون والربان على ظهر المركب فحسب
