The Global Egyptian Museum

This mask of Tutankhamun is an example of the highest artistic and technical achievements of the ancient Egyptians in the New Kingdom. 

Covering the head of the wrapped mummy in its coffin and activated by a magical spell, no.151b from the Book of the Dead, the mask ensured more protection for the king's body. 

The exact portrayal of the king's facial features achieved here made it possible for his soul to recognize him and return to his mummified body, thus ensuring his resurrection. 

The head is covered by the royal headdress and the forehead bears the emblems of kingship and protection: the vulture and uraeus, or cobra. 

The gold sheets used in this wonderful mask are joined together by heating and hammering. The eyes are of obsidian and quartz and the eyebrows and eyelids are inlaid with lapis lazuli. The broad inlaid collar of semiprecious stones and colored glass ends in falcon heads.

Ce masque de Toutânkhamon est un exemple des plus importantes réalisations artistiques et techniques de l'Egypte ancienne dans le Nouvel Empire. 

Couvrant la tête de la momie dans son cercueil et activé par une formule magique, No 151b du Livre des morts, le masque assurait une meilleure protection au corps du roi. 

Cette représentation exacte des traits du roi permet à son âme de le reconnaître et de retourner dans son corps momifié, assurant ainsi sa résurrection. 

La tête est couverte de la coiffe royale et le front porte les emblèmes de la royauté et de la protection, le vautour et l'uræus. 

Les feuilles d'or utilisées pour fabriquer ce magnifique masque sont scellées par chauffage et martelage. Les yeux sont en obsidienne et en quartz et les sourcils et les paupières sont incrustés de lapis-lazuli. Les extrémités du large collier incrusté de pierres semi-précieuses et de pâte de verre colorée représentent des têtes de faucon.

يشهد قناع توت عنخ آمون هذا على ارتفاع المستوى الفني والحرفي الذي وصل إليه المصريون القدماء في الدولة الحديثة. 

وقد كان القناع يغطي رأس المومياء المكفنة في تابوتها. وسجل عليه التعويذة الحادية والخمسين بعد المائة باء من كتاب الموتى تأكيدا لمزيد من الحماية لجسد الملك. 

وقد عني الفنان بتمثيل التفاصيل الدقيقة الصادقة حتى تتمكن روح الملك المتوفى من الاهتداء إلى جسده تارة أخرى ومن ثم تعين على بعثه. 

ونرى هنا الرأس وقد غطيت بغطاء الرأس المعروف وزينت الجبهة برموز الملكية والحماية المتمثلة في النسرة و الكوبرا. 

وقد تم تشكيل الألواح الذهبية المستخدمة هنا عن طريق التسخين ثم الطرق. واستخدمت أحجار الأوبسيديان والكوارتز واللازورد في تشكيل العينين والحاجبين كما زين الصدر بقلادة من الأحجار شبه الكريمة والزجاج الملون والذي ينتهي برؤوس الصقر.
