The Global Egyptian Museum

This statue of Amenhotep the Third is one of the most beautiful statues of this period. He was shown standing with his left leg forward, but his legs are now lost. He is wearing the Pschent, the Double Crown of Upper and Lower Egypt, over the Nemes, the traditional headdress decorated with the royal cobra, or uraeus. He also wears the starched triangular royal kilt decorated with a long belt reaching the hem of the kilt. The belt is flanked by two cobras. 

His arms are not by his sides as is usual. His left forearm is bent horizontally on his stomach, indicating that he was holding an object, now missing. 

All the details are very well portrayed by the sculptor. They reveal a profound knowledge of human anatomy, expressed clearly in the muscles of the chest, shoulders, and arms.

Cette statue d'Amenhotep Trois est l'une des plus belles de cette période. Le roi est coiffé du Pschent, ou double couronne de la Haute et de la Basse Egypte, surmonté du némes orné de l'uræus ou cobra royal. La jambe gauche en avant, il se tient debout ; malheureusement, aujourd'hui, ses jambes ont disparu. 

Ses bras ne sont pas disposés le long de son corps. Son avant-bras gauche est plié horizontalement sur son estomac ce qui laisse à supposer qu'à une époque, il tenait un objet. Ajoutons qu'Amenhotep Trois porte un pagne triangulaire amidonné orné d'une longue ceinture. Flanquée de deux cobras, cette dernière descend jusqu'à l'ourlet du pagne. Précisons également que l'artiste a parfaitement rendu tous les détails de cette statue. 

La minutie dont il fit preuve, témoigne d'une excellente connaissance de l'anatomie humaine. D'ailleurs, il suffit de regarder les muscles de la poitrine, des épaules et des bras pour s'en apercevoir.
