Description
This small figurine in blue faience, which was purchased in the art trade of Cairo in 1938, but of which the provenance is not known, represents a monkey seated on a socle. The animal, which holds the right arm to its mouth seems to be eating something. Could one interpret this figurine as a sort of amulet representing a monkey eating palm nuts, symbols of fertility?
