Greek designation for the Egyptian phrase per-wesir ('House/sanctuary of Osiris'), modern Abu Sir. Several places in Egypt bore and bear this name. The best known of them is in the Delta and was the capital of the 9th Lower Egyptian nome. Its ancient Egyptian name was Djedu, a designation related to the 'djed'-pillar, a symbol of Osiris.
