Cippus fragment

M11700.jpg
M11700a.jpg M11700b.jpg

A fragment from a cippus stela depicting the child Horus. The cippus was a form of protective stela that became popular from the Late Period onwards. Horus was depicted as a naked child standing on a crocodile and holding snakes, scorpions and other dangerous creatures. The stela thus provided healing powers against the effects of these animals. This fragment shows the stela being held before the body of another figure.
