L103074B.jpg Flash

Friezes composed of cones such as these were inserted into the façades of Theban tomb chapels to identify their owners. This cone bears the name and titles of the Fourth Prophet of Amun and Governor of Upper Egypt Montemhat, the effective ruler of Thebes at the time of the Assyrian invasions in the 670s and 660s BC. He is shown at either side, kneeling on the hieroglyph for 'all' or 'lord', arms raised in adoration of the sun-god, depicted at the top as the solar disk in its boat.
