Stela with funerary inscription in Coptic

1908449.JPG

The inscription states, in the latest phase of the Egyptian language, that the stela was set up in memory of father Victor. Although the script and faith are Christian, the Pharaonic past survives in two of the names of the Coptic fathers invoked, Anoup (originally referring to Anubis, god of mummification) and Pamoun (originally meaning 'the man belonging to the god Amun').
