The image of the watchdog inside the circle is an emblema, a small panel created separately in the style of a painting, which was later set into a floor or wall mosaic.
Originally a square, it portrays a spotted watchdog, whose purpose is indicated by the red band on its neck. The dog sits on its hind feet with its forefeet straight.
The tail is twisted on the ground beside the hind feet. The dog's eyes look far ahead and the ears are upright, signifying a state of watchfulness. The dog is colored in white, black, and light brown. The background is a brown color. On the ground is a vessel which has a round-holed handle behind the spout, made of bronze.
