Fragmento de papiro no qual estão escritas catorze linhas horizontais de texto hierático em tinta preta, com rubricas em vermelho.  Este importante papiro documenta uma parte do processo de homens acusados de roubar o túmulo de Ramsés VI durante a  XX dinastia.

Een fragment papyrus waarop 14 horizontale regels hiëratische tekst zijn geschreven in zwarte inkt, met tussenkopjes in rood. Deze belangrijke papyrus documenteert een gedeelte van het proces tegen de mannen die ervan verdacht werden het graf van Ramses VI tijdens de 20e dynastie beroofd te hebben.

From the private collection of Joseph Mayer, given to the museum in 1867. The papyrus was bought by Mayer from the Reverend Henry Stobart in 1857.

Comentário general


Preservation: 
The papyrus is torn and has several lacunae. The papyrus was mounted on linen by Constantine Simonides, a notorious forger of texts, his name appears on the bottom right-hand corner of the papyrus.

Text comment: 
This papyrus and Papyrus Mayer A are extremely important, recording the arrest and subsequent trials of ordinary men and women accused of tomb robbery at a time of political instability at the end of the XXth Dynasty. The documents are very informative about legal procedures, the lifestyle of the poorer class and make reference to the confused events happening at the time, alluding to buildings and monuments still standing today.
The papyrus is a fragment recording the confession of a thief who describes a visit, probably not the first, by himself and four others to the tomb of Ramesses VI. This visit was  a sequel to a scene in which Pais  had found the thieves in unlawful possession of certain metal and had threatened to report them to the Prince of the West. He was bribed with the promise of a further visit to the tomb in which he could also participate. We also learn that the tomb appears to have been exploited for some time, as the gold and silver seems to have already been removed.
